Can an art piece be described by an equation?

Time to Complete

1 - 3 45 minute sessions

Overview

Learners explore the basic characteristics of periodic functions through experimenting with pendulums and create their own abstract art piece.

Standards Covered

  • Identify and describe the domain and range of a given trigonometric function.

  • Relate the domain and range of a trigonometric model to the relationship they describe.

  • Identify the key characteristics of a trigonometric function from graphs and from equations.

  • Construct trigonometric functions that model periodic relationships.

  • Use technology to graph parametric curves and describe how the curve changes given a specific parameter change

  • Programming Extension: Lissajous Curve Simulator
